Sophia Marie Guerrero is a proud Native American/Mexican Californian born and raised in Sacramento where she was immersed in many diverse groups both culturally and artistically. Her mother knew she had something very special to share when as a little girl she couldn’t stop singing West Side Story, The Sound of Music, and The Phantom of the Opera to her stuffed animals.
Sophia had many mentors who believed in her and offered free voice lessons, pushed her toward performing opportunities, and guided her to consider the performing arts. Originally planning on going into the science field, she auditioned for the competitive MDT program at Brigham Young University and got in with a full-ride scholarship to support her pursuit of being a first-generation college grad and lifelong artist. Many professors and mentors continued to support her and she is grateful for all that she’s been given and able to do thus far. Because of this, she values and continues to fight for her art so younger generations can see there’s a place for everyone who looks and comes from a background like her. Her last name isn’t Guerrero (Warrior in Spanish) for nothing.
Sophia prides herself in playing roles her younger self didn't think possible because she looked different from the original princesses. Being raised on Disney princess movies, Selena Quintanilla, and Julie Andrews always lead her to hope to play Disney characters or leading soprano roles one day. Now she’s lucky to say she has played Ariel in The Little Mermaid, Jane Porter in Tarzan, Esmeralda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Miss Dorothy in Thoroughly Modern Millie and many more. She's a big believer in taking care of Mother Earth and can be found on a long walk outside near the trees or ocean with her husband and puppy. She values mental health and hopes to be a voice for indigenous children, immigrant families, and low-income families to remind them of the value of mental health, education, and taking space despite the obstacles.
